Hillel’s Internship Program is an opportunity for enthusiastic and organized students to be involved in the behind the scenes at UMass Hillel, taking ownership over projects and helping to support staff to make Hillel the best it can be. Throughout the 2026/27 school year, interns will be in their own cohort of student leaders at Hillel and will have personal and professional development opportunities to empower them as students workers and people. We believe in creating a strong community that allows students interns to connect with each other, their supervisor, and using all of the resources available at Hillel to support them as students at UMass Amherst. Interns should be available the morning of September 4th for Intern orientation and subsequent regular meetings (2x/month) with their supervisor. Roles Available:
Role: First Year Students of Hillel (FYSH) Engagement Interns
Time Frame: 2-5hrs/wk from August-December
Pay: $300/semester plus a coffee stipend
Description: We’re looking for outgoing, engaging Sophomore and Juniors to serve as FYSH Interns. Interns are responsible for keeping first year students engaged with Jewish life after Freshfest by forming strong relationships and planning specific FYSH programs at Hillel. Each Intern is expected to plan and execute 2-3 events aimed at first year students, with the goal to have at least 10 students at each event. Interns are also responsible for maintaining a personal, “big-sibling” relationship with the students they engage. Attending Freshfest is not required, though interested applicants are encouraged to also apply to be a Freshfest Facilitator. This is a one semester internship, with possibilities to extend into the spring based on interest.

Role: Social Media + Marketing Interns
Time Frame: 5-10hrs/wk from August-May with some assignments over Winter Break
Pay: $15/hr
Description: Hillel is looking for 1-2 Social Media and Marketing Interns to assist with creating a strong Instagram page, advertising events on campus via digital and physical media, and procuring good photos that can be used for future marketing campaigns. Familiarity with Canva, Google Forms, and photography skills are encouraged. Interns should be aware of current social media trends and be willing to be featured on social media content. Marketing and Communications majors are encouraged to apply, and anyone else interested in brand management.

Description: What makes you want to come to Hillel? Engagement interns have flexibility to choose how they want to engage other students, whether it be through large event (150+ students/ 1 semester) planning and support, small events (6-15 students 3x/ semester), coffee chats, or other. The Engagement intern should be creative, personable, and have an interest in building Jewish community.

Description: This role is great for a data science, stats, or CS major, or anyone interested in data driven software. Interns will learn how to use Hillel’s internal attendance system and be responsible for entering attendance sheets, generating reports, and maintaining a clear tracking system for events for Hillel’s 2026/27 programs.

Role: Jewish Education Intern

Description: This role is for someone who loves to learn, meet new people, and is detail oriented. The intern will participate in and help lead Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF) in both Fall and Spring. Fall JLF will be Tuesday nights from 6:30-8, Spring JLF times TBD. For JLF, the intern will meet regularly with Rav Alex and to help plan and develop content, and will also form relationships with other members in their cohort outside fo JLF. They will help recruit students for Hillel’s other learning programs. Based on interest, they can also help plan logistics and educational content for Shabbat, Jewish holidays, or a program of their interest.

Role:Israeli Culture Intern
Time Frame: 3-10 hrs/week September- May (extra hours during April and May)
Pay: $15/hr
Description: Do you want to be an advocate for Israel on campus? Do you want to support Israeli students? The Israeli Culture Intern will serve as a voice for Israel-related initiatives at Hillel and plan and execute their own projects and events. Projects can include supporting Birthright-related programming, helping to plan Israel Week, including Spread Cream Cheese Not Hate; supporting our current Mishelanu club for Israeli students, or planning advocacy related events.

Role: FreshFest Facilitators
Time Frame: Freshfest typically happens the Monday-Wednesday before classes start. Freshfest 2027 dates will be announced soon!
This volunteer position includes free early move in and Hillel merch.
Description: We're looking for friendly, outgoing, and creative rising Sophomores-Seniors to be FreshFest Facilitators. Facilitators serve as guides & mentors to participants and introduce them to their new campus. This is a great opportunity to gain leadership skills and make your mark on the incoming class of Hillel students. Facilitators get to experience the full FreshFest experience for free- including 2 field trips, Hillel swag, meals, and early move in, an experience worth over $400. Priority will be given to applicants who have not already served as FreshFest facilitators. Applicants are encouraged to also apply to be Freshmen Engagement Interns.
This role is filled for the 2026 school year. Please check back in March to apply for next year.

Time Frame: 2-5hrs/wk from January-August + Attending FreshFest 2027
Pay: $500
Description: Intended for someone who has already served as a Freshfest Facilitator, the FreshFest Student Co-chairs will be in charge of planning and leading FreshFest 2027! Throughout the Spring Semester they will meet for 1-2 hours a week to plan Freshfest and will engage future students through direct outreach and tours of Hillel. They will be involved with hiring and recruiting the other Freshfest facilitators and in the Fall Semester they will follow up with Freshmen after Freshfest.

Role: Mashgichim
Time Frame: Self select hours
Pay: $15.50/hr
Description: Mashgichim will be trained in kosher supervision and tasked with ensuring Hillel’s kitchen use is following the standards of kashrut. Mashgichim are required to become trained in laws of Kashrut and Servsafe certified.

- Submitting digital materials to The Pulse and other on campus digital marketing platforms
- Helping to compile the weekly News 4 Jews email
- Tracking their hours
