IACT Birthright Coordinator
Role Overview
Enrich the lives of Jewish students by joining UMass Hillel as the IACT Birthright Coordinator. IACT (Inspired, Active, Committed, Transformed) is an initiative that builds on the success of Birthright Israel by offering support and inspiration to students before, during, and beyond the trip. You will oversee a comprehensive engagement strategy dedicated to creating community at the University of Massachusetts Amherst that includes building one on one relationships with students, staffing trips to Israel, and connecting students to opportunities that meet their interests upon their return to campus. You will be an integral member of a dynamic and caring staff team at a top employee-rated Hillel. In a national 2021 Hillel movement-wide survey of employee satisfaction, UMass Hillel ranked 10 percentage points higher than the average Hillel.
You will leverage Israel experiences as a way to meaningfully engage a great diversity of Jewish students, with a special focus on those with little current connection to Hillel and/or Jewish life. Your role will further the personal and professional growth and development of UMass students. You will work with them prior to their departure and upon their return to engage them in Jewish life, encouraging them to become involved as leaders and participants in student-organized Jewish programming and groups, and facilitating their participation in existing Israel-related opportunities on and off campus. You’ll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely enthusiastic to help students explore, experience, and create vibrant connections to Israel and their Jewish identities. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5!
Due to the ongoing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, your role and responsibilities will adapt to current realities. In the event that trips to Israel are prohibited, your work will focus on engaging diverse students on campus, supporting their exploration of Judaism and Israel, and developing a “pre-trip community” that enables students interested in Birthright to connect with each other.
