Bridging The Divide Initiative
Bridging the Divide is UMass Hillel’s initiative to create and strengthen bridges across difference at UMass Amherst. Throughout the school year, students build mutually beneficial relationships with leaders from diverse UMass communities to create authentic partnerships. These partnerships are based on understanding each other’s values and perspectives in order to find a common ground between individuals and communities that leads to solidarity and empathy.
A component of the Bridging the Divide Initiative includes a trip to Israel, which brings Jewish and non-Jewish student leaders to Israel giving them first-hand experience with Israel’s dynamic and complex society. The trip is almost free for all participants.
Over 10 days, student leaders immerse themselves in Israeli society, learn about Israeli history, meet with political, cultural, religious, and grassroots leaders, and forge bonds to take action upon return to campus.
For more information, please contact our Israel Fellow, Sapir Ben Zvi.
