Let’s learn gemara. We will identify key phrases and common logic patterns, improving our reading skills as we cruise within the Babylonian Talmud. This course requires some background in Gemara learning.

What’s up in the Parsha? Judaic 191G

Following the weekly Torah portion we will read and analyze the Chumash and its greatest commentators. Our goals will be to improve our reading skills, to identify dissention and argument among the leading commentators, and to penetrate some of the mysteries of the holy Torah. English translation will be provided for most sources.

Women in the Bible through Text and Artistry Judaic 191J

Students' intellectual and artistic creativity will be called upon in this class, team taught by a Jewish educator and a locally renowned art teacher. We will learn about intriguing women from the bible using various traditional texts and discuss their personae. We will bring what we have learned to themed art projects for each of the characters.

Niggunim and Jewish Religious Melodies

Explore Jewish liturgy and poetry through old and new melodies. This class will focus on songs from the Chasidic, traditional, and renewal communities among others. We will also explore the role of song in various texts. Knowledge of Hebrew is helpful but not required.
