Challah For Hunger
Challah for Hunger (CfH) is a nationwide nonprofit organization that brings people together to bake and sell challah with the purpose of raising money and awareness for social justice causes. There are over 50 CfH chapters located on college campuses all over the world. Half of the profits are donated to Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger and half of the profits support a local organization of the chapter’s choice. During the 2014-2015 academic year, the UMass Amherst chapter held several bakings and raised over $2000. We donated half of the proceeds to the Amherst Survival Center, a regional resource providing food, clothing, health care, and community to residents of Hampshire and Franklin Countries through primarily volunteer efforts.
As our UMass chapter grows, we are excited to have more challah bakes this semester and hope to raise even more money for social justice causes. You are more than welcome to join us at any of our baking events, which occur on Thursday nights.
Loaves are $3 each. Buy in person on Thursdays following our bakes or Fridays that we're selling in the Campus Center. We accept cash and Venmo.
Please visit us on Facebook for the latest updates on baking and selling dates. You can also send us an email at umass@challahforhunger.org.
